My name is Silvia Kirkland, I am a fairly seasoned hotelier from Italy with around 17 years of experience in the hospitality business, mainly in Rooms Division - including Front Office, Guest Services, Concierge, PBX, Housekeeping, Laundry and Uniform Room, Guest Relations, VIP Operations, Revenue and Reservations, and Night Audit.
I have spent the last 20 years of my life moving around Italy first, then Europe and the US due to school and job opportunities.
My most recent move has been from Washington DC to Vail (Colorado), after moving back to the U.S. from Amsterdam (Netherlands). Following the successful opening of a boutique 5 star property in downtown DC, which unfortunately closed only 6 weeks later due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I found myself unemployed - as unfortunately too many of my colleagues - and I spent several months waiting for our beloved industry to recover, hoping for better times to come soon for all of us, and open to the opportunity to find a new company and a new team that I could call home again. I have now found my home.
In the mean time, I have loved the opportunity the blog has given me to be able to share my expertise and opinions on the business I am so passionate about.
I have enjoyed expanding my network, getting to know a lot of people in the industry, and offering some hospitality consultancy.
I have appreciated getting to know fellow hoteliers who also understand this component of our journey, and the power of sharing and networking.
